Humans are arguably the oldest race in Ira. (Dwarves may disagree and see themselves as the original branch). When the angels and demons came to Ira via portals the dwarves were driven into the mountains and humans had much of their own culture erased by the would be king's. For the longest time there was little to no resistance against the false gods, until one day a great Hero arose, and joined forces with the Warlord, and the Nightmare Child. After the Great War, the Nightmare Child vanished and the Warlord and Hero went their separate ways, although rumor has it the two joined forces one last time to stop the Elves and Dwarves from creating another Great War.
What became of the Warlord and the Hero and their great rivalry is not known, only legends remain.
Humans are one of the largest races in Ira, which should really be no surprise. They are industrious and like to spread. Some even believe that humans are the natives to Ira, and that elves and dwarves didn’t come to the world until after The Great War when all the portals that grew throughout Ira opened wide one last time before sealing forever. Whether or not you wish to believe it, there are more human cities than any others, although some will says its more because other races are either more picky about there homes, or that they have a higher regard for the balance.
In southern Ira there is one of the capital cities of Aelberon, the central city of trade.
It houses thousands of humans, has large stone walls to protect from invasion. The city itself is made of five rings, In the center of the city is a large tower overlooking the city known as Angel’s Reach, surrounded by a garrison of elite soldiers. Surrounding angels reach is a ring of government buildings, the ring outside of that is made of the central trade hub, outside of that is the residential ring, and finally another garrison defending the barrier. Some believe that Angel’s Reach marks the spot where The Angel Lord and The Demon Void clashed in The Great War.
South of the capital is the city of Draughed, some believe that this city was built near the portal where the Demon King came through in the Great War. Others believe it was built near the ruins of a city where abominations were created. The city itself is usually plagued by foul weather, but other than that is relatively prosperous.
Doronhal
A port city that was once a great and thriving town of trade. Doronhal’s great walls which go all the way around the large city and protect its inhabitants. However what was once a great and respectable city has fallen to shambles. The streets are filthy, the walls and stone buildings covered in grime, and the water in the peer would make anyone who drinks its violently ill from pollutant. The city center building are made entirely of stone and as you move outwards the buildings become more and more made of wood until you get to the outermost point of the city by the walls where people live in just shacks. While there is the noble district which houses all the lords and ladies of the town, most of them living of the inheritance of their parents shipping companies, the majority of the town has a seedier element to it. With dozens of assassins and theives guilds throughout the city there is always the chance you could could end up with a knife in your back at any moment. The only places that seem to be off limits to death, are bars. Even then, chances are you’ll be stabbed the minute your out the door.
There are guards in the city who occasionally try to catch and thief or a mugger but they generally try to keep to themselves in the center part of town, fearing a stabbing in retribution. Occasionally in the town square the gallows will be put together and a group of prisoners hanged in a feeble attempt to show some sense of justice and law. Instead all it does is portray the twisted mockery of what should be, and allows the officials to go home and sleep soundly at night, while the commoners simply continue about their miserable lives.
Just outside the city walls there are shanty towns all around. The towns serve as a harsh reminder of the cities current state of affairs and when compared to the great towering walls, a shocking disparity between what is and what was.
Durmstalt
The home of Ira’s Thieves Guild, as well as some of the most corrupt guards. This place is a home to any who think they can settle here, many half-breeds live here, and as a result the city is actually a little less racist as a whole than others. That said, those who are racist in this city, take it to all new extremes. If there is one truth about Durmstalt, its that its fair. Those who can earn their keep, earn it well, or as well as one can be in such a city.
The city is separated from the elven capital by a valley that also runs across the dwarven city of Sturmhalla, few are willing to travel through this pass who are not either confident in their ability to fight, or accompanied by an escort of guards or mercenaries. Thankfully, one can find such mercenaries through the Thieves Guild who employ not only thieves but sell swords. To the west is the human capital of Aelberon, as a result of its location, many nobles with shady business goals tend to come here, as well as mages who are avoiding the law, looking for rare items on the black market.
The city is built as an incline of two base levels, the lower level being the thieves guild, as well as the shoddy homes to many poor folk. Run down buildins made of wood that have a year-round draft and leaky rooftops. The streets are littered and dirty, many people starving, begging and haggling. Many streets have dead ends and dark alleys, and many of the inhabitants are convinced they were put there intentionally. The bar is of course the mainstay of the lower level. Beneath the lower level is a system of underground tunnels, mainly for sewage that the more intelligent of thieves know how to navigate for their purpose. The higher level is where the thieves guild operates as a more legitimate seeming store and provides a variety of contacts for nobles. The higher level also houses many nobles. Nobles who if they forget to pay their dues to the thieves guild will find some of their more valuable items misplaced. Of course they would never report the items because more often than not reporting it would raise more questions that they would prefer not to answer. Of course it also helps that the thieves guild has many guards working with it.
Th guild itself will rarely resort to violence or anything too dastardly, but it does protect its own.
