The Trolls of Ira are unlike most other trolls you’d ever see. There are two kinds of Troll but the different breeds have similar characteristics. They stand at well over 9 feet and have huge lumbering forms. They are aggressive by nature, and very protective of where they call home.
As stated there are two different kinds of Trolls, the more common is the Usake breed. These Trolls are a bit bigger than their counter parts, and have much more grotesque look about them. With a greener tinge to their complexion, they are sometimes mistaken for large Orcs, however the Usake are unable to speak any language other than their own. They have huge lumbering forms, and tend not to move very quickly unless in battle or some great urgency. The most distinguishable characteristic between them and their counterpart Trolls are their great huge tusks. These tusks tend to curl up about 6 inches out of their mouths. Because of the size of these things their lower jaw juts out significantly further than their upper jaw, giving them a more disgusting look. They come across uncivilized and idiotic and for the most part it’s a pretty fair assumption. These are the grunts of the tribe, often used as the first line warriors and for manual labor by their more sophisticated counterparts. These counterparts are called the Dok by the Usake which in their language means master. As their name implies these are the leaders of the tribes. They are a little smaller in stature than the Usake but almost equal in strength. They are much more coordinated and intelligent than their lesser clan mates and are fearsome warriors. The Dok are even able to learn the language of the other species with the exception of Elven which is too complicated of a language for the group to learn. The Dok are the leaders of the clan in all respects. They are the foreman, the masters of crafting, and war time leaders. The Dok are also the only part of the Troll species to have females. When a female Dok reproduces their children always come in pairs and will end up as either another Dok, which is the preferable one, or an Usake.
While there are differences between the Troll subgroups they all share a common grey skin tone. Both groups also have the same roundish face, only exception being the Usake tusks, and the small small jet black eyes. Instead of ears as most species know them the Trolls have small holes for ears and flat noses. Because they do have such small eyes their sight is not as good as it could be and so they rely primarily on scent and sound. This also helps them hunt in the desert in which things tend to blend together.
For many generations the Trolls were a nomadic species and since they number only a 8,000, they migrated as one group. It is only in the past 30 years that the Trolls have settled in a mountainous region of the desert claiming the natural caves as their home. The home is so new the Trolls have not even given it a name so to them is simply home, and to the rest of Ira it is called the Channel of the Grey.
The Trolls have no magic users to speak of, there is no shaman or great magic user. The only remote magic they posses is the gift of foresight, and that is a gift only the leader of their clan has.
The Trolls of the desert are lead by a Matriarch who’s name is Nuevas. She has been gifted with a degree of foresight and so she leads. She is by no means weak though. A Dok, she has been trained in every aspect of war like her male counterparts and rules with an iron fist. In a very successful effort to maintain her dominance she has taken many mates, always producing Doks, who she uses as a group of enforcers. While there is constant infighting between her mates, they obey her without pause.
The Trolls maintain little connection with the rest of Ira as they find the smaller races to be of little importance.
In the past 5 years a splinter group of Dok males, a few females and a number of Usake broke away from Nuevas’ clan and made their home a few miles way. Under the leadership of a Dok named Borsok this new splinter group carved out a home in the desert of their own. Taking almost a third of the group with the intention of domination. Borsok leads under the virtue of conquest and while the majority of the desert Trolls who live under Nuevas’ rule do not attack the other races, Borsok makes a sport of it. Targeting mainly humans who live on the outskirts of the desert, and the Orcs that they also share the space with the take whatever they want. While they still maintain the idea of Troll superiority they will attack the other races more in the idea of, “Well they are lesser so we take what we want.”
With this current infighting between the two Troll factions and both groups constant skirmishes with the Orcs, the desert is an inhospitable place.
