Rule # 1 No sword mages. Why? They are too powerful. If you were on the forum back in the time when all of the stuff that is now mythical was around, you will understand this. Versatility is nice, but sword mages tend to lean towards being too versatile=being over powered. This is role playing, pick your strengths and weaknesses carefully.
#2 Be consistent. By this we mean be consistent with your background/ability points. If you put that your character is very slow, and dumb, then do not give them a technique that requires speed and genius tactics to pull off.
#3 Be original. We don’t need any Goku’s/ Drizzt Do’Urden’s/ Ichigo Kurosakis/ Edward Elrichs
#4 Mage rule If you are a mage, you do not get any melee weapons. You get one dagger. It can be enchented with an element, or one that returns after you throw it, but thats it. Also, you’re a mage. Chances are you know more about spells than throwing knives. (No bullseye enchantments)
#5 Be specific about what your moves can do. No adding in other things you can do. If you have fire ball spell, you shoot fire balls. You do not shoot fire that allows you to propel yourself through the air. That would be a different spell. Tier 2 techniques have 1 use. Tier 3 have 2 moderately powerful uses, (enchanted items can have 2 enchantments), or 3 weak ones.
Remember: Vagueness is the enemy. This is a slight reiteration of rule 5, but its an over all theme in roleplaying.
#6 Variation makes for weaker characters. Remember, the more variety a technique/character has, the weaker they will be at each aspect. Keep this in mind when making your character.
#7 Elastic Clause: If there is an abuse to these rules or some over site we have made, we will change the rules. don’t worry we will let you know and give you a warning.
All about Ability Points
Ability points are designed to make sure we have a rough idea of how strong they are however they are not an actual number, meaning they are not ratio.
This means that if you have a strength score of 4 and someone else has a strength of 2, you are not twice as strong as them. You are however, two points stronger. There is a different because points have no set value and not necessarily even a consistent value. More importantly there is no natural 0 start point.
As a mathematical example lets say that everyone automatically has a numerical base of 5 and that an individual has 2 points, that would give them a total numerical number of 7. (This is just an example.)
Again, so this is clear ability points are not designed to give an exact value of your abilities. Rather, they are designed to be an idea of if you are or are not stronger than someone.
Character making process:
Now that you know the rules, here’s how you make your character.
Go to the Character Sheet thread, copy and past the template to a word document or new thread.
Fill it out.
Post the thread.
Before you can use your character he/she must be reviewed by two admins and all necessary changes must be made.
Once two admins have given the O.K. you can post.
Also, please post when you've made your edits just saying you've fixed stuff. Makes it a lot easier for us to know. Believe it or not we don't check all of the in progress characters daily. We just kinda wait to see when you've finished.
Upgrades
When you do a good job posting, we the admins will reward you with points. These points can be used to upgrade abilities/characters.
These are the rules for this.
(insert point values here)
Only one upgrade per technique. In other words, you can add one more aspect to your technique without penalty, but that is it.
Your character may be upgraded to have
2 additional tier 1’s
5 additional tier 2’s
1 additional tier 3
1 additional tier
Learning new techniques
To learn new techniques points are necessary but not sufficient. This means that you do need points, but you must also write them in to the plot. The plot must be consistent, and quality. If you want to learn some new super awesome technique you don’t get to just practice it for a few hours or talk to some guru for a bit. You must learn it and spend the time required to master it. Even if you find your super awesome sword/dagger/gavagai in a chest somewhere, you must still learn its nature and how to use it.
